Great ER to work for. 2-4 patient ratios, lots of help from your fellow nurses, charge nurses, and ancillary teams. Providers are knowledgeable and are constantly educating. Overall great team to work for.

UMC is a great place to work as a travel nurse. Everyone was welcoming, friendly, and I can’t say one bad thing about 3 East. Patient ratios 1:3-1:5 on night shift with 7-8 nurses at all times and charge with no assignment. I felt safe at all times with help available if ever needed. It truly is a team.

The culture is very cliquey with open disdain for men on the East Tower OR this is where most travelers will go. They drove off or fired every male in the OR diving one traveler to walk off the contract. Three RNs cut their contracts short. It’s a hell hole.

Our Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit has 24 beds and is a team-oriented unit that provides high quality and safe care to a variety of cardiac patients, including: post open heart surgery, post percutaneous coronary intervention, congestive heart failure, myocardial infarction, and cardiogenic shock. The CV/CICU also cares for patients requiring an intra- aortic balloon pump, continuous renal replacement therapy, ventricular assist device or ECMO. The CV/CICU is a full service critical care monitored unit, which provides an opportunity to maintain and improve skills in the overall assessment and care of the critically ill patient. Our nurses are valuable team members and help develop a culture of inclusion and respect. UMC is a teaching institution, so we value learning and development, giving you ample opportunity to expand your skills and knowledge with continued education. Our unit is fast-paced and you'll find great people working together with other professional interdisciplinary teams.

Registered professional nurse who assesses, implements or delegates, plans, and evaluates total nursing care and functions in accordance with established philosophy, providing and directing patient care for a group of patients. Relates effectively with other shifts/departments for optimal continuity of care.

Qualifications:

* Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing
* Valid Texas RN License/Eligible Compact License
* Must maintain a current BLS &amp; ACLS certification from American Heart

Association

* BSN required or must be obtained within 3 years of hire
* Must maintain National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale certificate NIHSS
* CCRN Certification preferred

Departmental Description:

GTSCU is a 29 bed Medical/Surgical unit. We have two primary focuses on GTSCU; one on the Geriatric Trauma patient age 60 years or older who has sustained a trauma and the other on the palliative care patient; our goal is to provide relief of suffering that may occur at many points during a disease process. Patients assigned to GTSCU are received primarily from the Emergency Center and ICU's. GTSCU was developed as a result of Best Practice and Research that indicates that a shorter length of stay decreases morbidity and mortality in the elderly hospitalized patient that sustained a trauma. GTSCU also serves a quiet and peaceful environment for patients and families as we care for their loved one who may be at the end of life. The nursing staff on GTSCU are trained to care for patients at the end of life as well as those who will be discharged home or to other facilities.

Job Summary:

Registered professional nurse who assesses, implements or delegates, plans, and evaluates total nursing care and functions in accordance with established philosophy, providing and directing patient care for a group of patients. Relates effectively with other shifts/departments for optimal continuity of care.
