You can book everything from a mansion to a yurt or choose accommodations with views of sand and surf, mountains or other amazing scenery.
The newest features for the platform include Guest Favorites, a collection of the 2 million most popular homes based on previous guests’ opinions. Guest Favorites have excellent reviews, averaging 4.9 stars or higher. Also, revamped ratings and reviews with three new features make it easier for travel nurses to find relevant reviews. Hosts can now create AI-powered photo tours and share other details about their homes to give guests a more complete look at the property before booking it.
Booking with Airbnb
When you find a listing you like, click the red Reserve button. The next page offers a summary of your reservation details, including your travel dates and the total cost of the rental. If you see “Request to Book,” you can add payment information but must wait for the Host to approve your booking request, usually within 24 hours or less. 8. Travel Nurse Housing
Travel Nurse Housing (TNH) is the sister site to Furnished Finder, with an even bigger emphasis on housing for travel nurses. It currently boasts over 60,000 fully furnished listings on its website. Like Furnished Finder, travelers never pay a booking fee and book directly with the property owners instead of using the site. TNH doesn’t get involved with any transactions, including lease agreements or rental payments, which cuts down on the fees found on many other housing sites.
All listings on Travel Nurse Housing originate from and are managed by Furnished Finder and property owners can list their homes on both sites for one fee, making it more likely that travelers will find duplicates. However, TNH only caters to travel nurses, so the properties listed on its site should all be more suitable for this purpose. The site looks for properties close to or within an easy commute of hospitals, making listed properties more relevant and potentially saving you some search time.

9. Vrbo
Vrbo (Vacation Rentals By Owner) is part of the Expedia group and is similar to Airbnb, as it also specializes in connecting travelers with property owners. Like Airbnb, it’s not a traditional traveling nurse housing site, but traveling healthcare professionals have found suitable accommodations through Vrbo. Its site boasts over 2 million bookable rentals, flexible cancellation policies if plans change and stays for every budget.
Vrbo launched its OneKeyCash rewards program in late 2023, allowing frequent bookers to earn 2% cash back to use on future bookings. It’s currently the only major vacation rental platform offering a rewards program. The loyalty program also lets you earn and redeem rewards at Expedia and Hotels.com.
Booking with Vrbo
Once you find the perfect listing, click the blue Book Now button on the right side of the page. Before checking out, review the breakdown to confirm the total cost of the rental. If everything looks correct, fill out the contact form and click Agree & Continue. The next page displays a list of policies, terms and conditions. Click Agree & Continue again to proceed to the checkout page. Travelers get a Book with Confidence Guarantee when they book and pay on the site.

10. Zillow
Travelers might overlook Zillow, thinking it’s just for home buyers, but it also has a section for rentals. Add “short term” to your search parameters, and it typically brings up a few hundred listings in various locations. While it doesn’t provide tons of options, and many property owners consider a 6-month lease as short-term when you only need a 3-month lease, it offers one more place to search if you still haven’t found the housing you need for your next assignment.
Because Zillow is primarily a real estate listing site, renters won’t find as much help here as they do on traditional housing rental sites. However, property owners may be able to use Zillow Property Manager for rental applications, creating leases and accepting payments if they’re located in cities serviced and meet the platform’s qualifications. Renters who rent from one of these property owners can perform some tasks online, but there doesn’t seem to be a counterpart to this service strictly for renters. They can, however, get 30-day subscriptions to submit their application to participating landlords, eliminating the need to fill out multiple applications.
Booking with Zillow
When searching for short-term rentals, include “short term” in the keywords section under the “More” tab to get more relevant results. You can also filter your search with preferences for home type, number of bedrooms and price. If you don’t find the right property, create a saved search to receive alerts for new properties matching your criteria. Once you find a property you like, securing it varies by property owner.
Zillow isn’t involved in the communication or transactional process between renters and listing owners. However, you can use the Request a Tour option or request to apply for the rental using the contact box posted within the listing. The listing owners’ contact information is at the bottom of the listing.

Tips for Making Housing Arrangements
Always make sure you understand the costs of the travel nurse rentals you’re comparing, including additional fees above rent and deposits. Nearly all travel nurse housing requires a security deposit, and these amounts vary widely. Some property owners may also charge a one-time cleaning fee, booking fee, guest fee, pet fee, etc.
Average Housing Rates
The cost of travel nurse housing varies drastically based on location. Major cities usually have higher costs of living, translating to higher rental rates. Proximity to medical centers, restaurants, shopping centers and other amenities can also affect how much you pay. For example, staying in the city center typically costs more than staying 10 or 15 miles away, and housing in Florida near famous attractions will likely be much higher than accommodations in midwestern states.

Agents from the FBI’s Boston office have previously warned consumers about the spike in rental scams due to rising rental costs, home prices and inflation. Use caution when booking accommodations for your next travel assignment and watch for these red flags:
- The property owner wants you to pay with cryptocurrency, a wire transfer, cash, a prepaid credit card or another nonrefundable way.
- You message the property owner with questions or concerns and don’t receive a response.
- The property owner can’t answer basic questions about the property.
- The price seems too good to be true.
- The property owner asks you to send your payment to an overseas account.
- You can’t access any photos or videos to show you what the rental looks like.
- The name of the person who posted the listing doesn’t match the property owner’s name found in public records.

Are there housing agencies/companies that will pay rent directly to the landlord?
Hello Everett and thanks for reaching out! If you rent a house/apartment from a property management company, this company would pay the rent directly to the landlord after you paid the money to them. If you rent through Airbnb or Vrbo, you pay for your rental through the platform, not directly to the homeowner. If you take agency-provided housing, the agency handles finding and paying for the rental. Besides these options, many short-term housing sites act as a go-between, and you typically pay the landlord directly yourself. However, there are many housing companies and options nationwide, so we suggest contacting those in the areas you need housing to see if having them pay the landlord directly is an option.

Many are good, but there are also bad ones, and some are from those renting their homes, not from travelers. AirBnb is also very popular and taking agency housing is always an option. How does a realtor help with some information and if rented does realtor get a commission to helping renters out.

As the renter, you’re usually responsible for the entire fee if you hire the realtor. In some cases, you may work out a deal with the landlord to cover part of the fee, but landlords usually only do this if they hire the realtor to fill their property. Realtors typically ask questions about what you’re looking for in a rental, then find and suggest properties that meet your needs. Not all realtors may specialize in short-term rentals, so ensure they fully understand your needs before agreeing on a commission (which is usually negotiable).
