A first assist technician is an allied health professional who specializes in assisting surgeons while performing operations. Although a first assist tech may be referred to as a surgical technologist and even perform some of the same tasks, there are significant differences between the two roles. First assist techs are also sometimes called surgical assistants, non-physician surgical assistants, surgical tech first assists, or simply first assists.
