Summary:
The Lead Surgical Technologist serves as the technical subject matter expert for Operating Room Surgical Technologists. This position mentors and teaches peers and new Surgical Technologists and RNs rotating through specialty. Acts as a resource for staff. Resolves minor equipment/supply, and surgical environment issues. Liaison with Central Sterile Processing regarding upcoming needs for instruments and supplies. Acts in the Surgical Technologist role for assigned surgical procedures. Assists the registered nurse with delegated circulating duties. This position can provide the above described services for both basic and complex surgeries. Must have Surgical Technologist Certification.
Responsibilities:
* Coordinate with team leader, equipment technician, and OR manager to ensure specialized, service specific equipment, implant and supplies for scheduled surgeries are available in working order. Anticipate patient specific and service specific needs for upcoming cases.
* Coordinate with service specific team lead, sales representatives and OR materials management for specialty equipment, implants, instruments and supplies.
* Content expert for assigned service line; fully knowledgeable on all specialty instrument sets specific to the specialty. Assist with tracking/maintenance of surgeon's specialty instruments. Manage issues, changes and/or additions to equipment needed for cases in a timely manner in coordination with OR leadership.
* Mentor and teach new surgical technologists to the Operating Room and RNs rotating through a specialty (within the scrub role).
* Serve as resource person for staff on service-related questions.
* Liaison with Sterile Processing regarding issues with instruments, equipment, and supplies for upcoming surgeries.
* Perform Surgical Technologist duties in surgical cases.
* Incorporate clinical research into clinical practice. Lead unit based quality improvement initiatives.
* Float to the Sterile Processing Department monthly to inspect and teach specialty instrumentation.
How You’ll Be Successful:
WORK EXPERIENCE
* At least 3 years Surgical Tech experience Required
EDUCATION
* High school diploma or equivalent required; additional training beyond high school Required
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
* Current Surgical Technologist Certification issued by an approved organization. Certification is not required if the employee has completed an appropriate training program for surgical technology in the United States Armed Forces or was employed as a surgical technologist prior to September 9, 2009. Upon Hire Required
* Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers as required by CP 1.20 Life Support Course Requirements Required
