Job Title: Pathologist Assistant Job Summary:
A Pathologist Assistant (PA) works under the supervision of a pathologist to assist in the examination, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases by performing and interpreting laboratory procedures. They play a critical role in the processing and preparation of tissue specimens, conducting laboratory tests, and assisting in the autopsy process. Pathologist Assistants help ensure accurate and timely diagnosis, contributing to the overall patient care process.
Key Responsibilities:- Assist pathologists in the performance of anatomical pathology procedures, including the preparation, dissection, and examination of tissue specimens.
- Prepare and examine tissue samples, including frozen sections and paraffin-embedded specimens, ensuring proper fixation, processing, and staining.
- Perform autopsies, document findings, and assist with tissue sampling for further analysis.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of tissue samples, pathology reports, and laboratory procedures.
- Prepare and label specimens for further examination or analysis by pathologists.
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, including microscopes, tissue processors, and autopsy tools, ensuring proper function and safety.
- Collaborate with pathologists, medical technologists, and other healthcare professionals to support diagnostic evaluations.
- Assist in the preparation of pathology reports by providing detailed data on tissue samples and lab results.
- Educate and train laboratory staff and other healthcare professionals on pathology techniques and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with safety, infection control, and laboratory standards in accordance with regulatory requirements.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Pathology, Medical Technology, or a related field.
- Certification:
- Certification as a Pathologist Assistant (PA) through the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) is preferred.
- Experience: Previous experience in pathology or related clinical roles
