Job Description

  • Position: MED/SURG specializing in post-op GI and wound care.
  • Experience Required:
    • Post-op experience is mandatory.
    • Acute care experience is required.
    • Must have experience working full-time on a post-op unit.
    • Minimum of 2 years of experience required.
    • At least one completed travel contract is necessary for submission.

  • Pancreatitis
  • GI bleeds
  • Bowel obstructions
  • Bowel perforation
  • Wound infections
  • Post-op infections
  • Mass removal
  • Esophageal perforation
  • Gunshot wounds (GSW)
  • Motor vehicle collisions (MVC)
  • Diverticulitis

Special Procedures

  • Pancreatectomy
  • Esophagectomy
  • Whipple procedure
  • Spleenectomy
  • Adrenalectomy
  • Cystectomy
  • Colectomy
  • Thyroidectomy
  • Mastectomy
  • Hepatic resection
  • Nissen fundoplication
  • Bariatric surgery
  • TURP
  • Gastrectomy
  • Parathyroidectomy
  • Exploratory laparotomy (Ex lap)

Equipment

  • PEG, PEJ
  • PCA
  • Per drain, JP drain
  • Hemovac, wound vac
  • Nephrostomy tubes
  • Ileostomy, colostomy, urostomy
  • Colostomy, surgical drains skills preferred.

Schedule

  • Manager will consider a blocked schedule if the candidate is willing to work weekend blocks (Fri, Sat, Sun) or a Sat, Sun, Mon rotation.

Contract Length

  • 13 weeks

Certifications Required

  • ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support
  • BLS - Basic Life Support
  • PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support (if applicable)
  • NRP - Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure (if applicable)
  • TNCC - Trauma Nursing Core Course (if applicable)
  • CPI - Crisis Prevention Institute (if applicable)

Additional Requirements

  • Current/valid Driver's License or State ID required.
  • Active Louisiana License or Compact License upon submission.
  • Background check and various health documents required.
  • Drug testing and vaccination documentation required.

Skills and Competencies

  • Skills checklist required and must be updated annually.
  • Competency exams specific to specialty required.
