Job Description

Under immediate to general supervision, the Surgical Technician provides technical assistance in the operating room, labor and delivery, or other facilities performing surgical procedures.

Essential Responsibilities

• Prepare the operating room using Physician’s preference cards.
• Establish a sterile field by opening instruments and supplies using sterile technique.
• Perform surgical scrubs prior to patient entry for all procedures.
• Assist in draping the patient and preparing the operative field.
• Ensure correct identification of operative specimens for laboratory analysis.
• Obtain and ensure the functionality of special equipment (e.g., electrosurgical machines).
• Provide additional instruments and supplies as needed during surgery.
• Participate in sponge, needle, and instrument counts as directed.
• Clean and sterilize contaminated instruments and equipment.
• Assist in training new surgical technicians.
• Perform clerical and technical direct patient care activities if assigned to Labor and Delivery.

General Responsibilities

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of basic human anatomy and first-aid methods.
• Ability to maintain effective working relationships.
• Skills to provide age-appropriate care for patients (neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, geriatric).
• Ability to assess and interpret data reflective of the patient’s status and needs.

• 89 days
