Job Description

Shift: 12-hour day shift starting at 7 AM, 3 days a week
Experience Required: At least 1 year of acute clinical experience
Responsibilities: Expectations to float between medical/surgical and telemetry units

Required Certifications

BLS: Basic Life Support (American Heart Association)
ACLS: Advanced Cardiac Life Support (American Heart Association)
NIHSS: NIH Stroke Certification (required for ER)
PALS: Pediatric Advanced Life Support (not required but preferred)
EFM: Electronic Fetal Monitoring (required for L&D)
IV Certification: Required for LVN/LPN
Fire Card: Required for LA City facilities
ENPC: Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (required for ER)
NALS: Neonatal Advanced Life Support (required for NICU, L&D, and Postpartum)

Health Requirements

Physical Exam: Must be completed within 12 months of start
Fit Mask: Respiratory Fit Test updated annually
Vaccinations:
- Tdap
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B
- Varicella
- Flu Seasonal Vaccination (required during flu season)
- COVID-19 Vaccination (fully vaccinated by September 30, 2021)

Competencies

Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam: Must score 80% or better within 1 year of start
Color Blind Testing: Required within 1 year of start
Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam: Required for all RNs within 1 year of start

Documentation Requirements

Background Check: Full background/criminal check required within 1 year of start
References: Minimum of two required
Resume/Application: Required for submission
Work History Verification: Required for employment during the last 7 years

Additional Information

Candidates must complete various facility-specific documents and training prior to starting.
All candidates must adhere to California state mandates regarding vaccinations and health documentation.

Pros

Everyone is friendly, typical to say hello to other staff members as we walk the hallways. This hospital is a teaching hospital, lots of students nurses on Thursdays and Fridays on some floors that shadow a nurses. Ratio 1:1 . They are fast on acting on life saving methods . Pharmacist are great at their job by communicating with nurses and doctors to clarify orders.

Cons

Patient ratio is the biggest complaint I hear from nurses. There's too much work and not enough staff. My co workers and I work a lot of overtime .
