Job Description
The ER Clinical Nurse is a Registered Professional Nurse responsible for providing safe, competent quality care to patients in the emergency department.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Deliver patient care using the professional practice model of Relationship Centered Care.
- Assess and evaluate patient care needs, applying critical thinking skills.
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary healthcare team to develop and implement care plans.
- Educate patients and caregivers about their care plans and health promotion.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
- Manage assignments within the Care Delivery Model of Modified Primary Nursing.
- Role model the tenets of Mount Sinai Relationship Centered Care.
- Establish and maintain therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
- Implement evidence-based practices to enhance patient care.
- Conduct purposeful hourly rounding on assigned patients.
Quality and Safety
- Practice safe, patient-centered care and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Engage in quality improvement projects and nursing research studies.
- Document nursing practice to support quality and performance improvement initiatives.
Additional Information
Operations
- Perform charge nurse duties as assigned.
- Coordinate with clinical management to ensure adequate supplies and staffing.
- Document accurately in compliance with hospital standards.
Professional Development
- Contribute to a supportive environment for clinical colleagues and patients.
- Advance clinical competence and project a professional image.
- Participate in shared decision-making through nursing committees and initiatives.
Required Skills
- New York State RN License
- ACLS and BLS certifications
- Minimum of 2 years of Emergency Medicine experience (adults and/or pediatrics)
- 1 year of travel experience preferred, especially with EPIC
- Trauma experience is a plus
- Additional certifications such as TNCC, ENPC, CEN are advantageous
