- No IR only or EP only techs
- Ideal candidate: Trained in Cath Lab & Interventional Radiology (IR)
- Roles: RN: Circulate CL & IR. Operate (“monitor”) hemodynamic monitoring/documentation system OR perform scrub assist role in the Cath lab; Circulate in the IR lab RTR: Pan x-ray table, operate (“monitor”) hemodynamic monitoring/documentation system, AND perform scrub assist role in the Cath Lab; Operate x-ray equipment and perform scrub assist role in IR
- Typical workflow: Assigned to one room per day (CL or IR), Rotate roles within the room among trained staff
- RN administers and monitors sedation; RTR manages x-ray in conjunction with MD; scrub and hemo monitoring can be done by RN or RTR
- After-hours call assignments are usually one night per week & about every 4-6 weekends. Comes out to 4-5 nights per 4-week schedule
- Willing to consider: CL-only or IR-only staff
- Prefer candidates with ability to do at least two roles: could by CL & scrub or monitor, or circulate only in both CL & IR
- Not likely to hire a nurse or RTR who can only do one role due to associated scheduling constraints
- CL: all typical interventional cath lab patients (diagnostic, PCI, rotational atherectomy, shockwave, IABP, Impella, etc.) – Structural heart usually handled by a limited group of CL staff
- IR: Vascular surgeons: peripheral angiography, fistulagrams, tunneled catheter insertions, etc., Neurosurgeon: elective diagnostic and interventional neuro procedures (angiogram, coiling, carotid stenting, etc.), kyphoplasty, Radiologists: tubes & drains, TIPS, embolization, etc.
