Adult 64 Bed Hospital with 12 bed Adult ICU.
14 bed ED department.
Imaging department staffing on weekend during the day is 1 MRI tech / 1 Xray tech / 1 US tech (Saturday only) / 1 CT tech
CT shifts on weekends are 7a-7p (that are needing coverage)
Majority of CT patients is adult ED patients (some pediatric scans are possible)
Adult Inpatients as ordered.
Type of equipment - Siemens Somatom Plus 128 slice CT
EMR – Meditech
PACS - FUJI Synapse
Skill Set Most recruited for: (Travel RNs, local CNAs and sitters)
List typical procedures performed on unit(s): Mixture of CT Head, cervical spine, chest, abdomen, pelvis. CTA chest, neck, abdomen, Occasional CTA Cardiac studies, Some CT Lumbar / Thoracic spine, CT Head Stroke protocol
Works well in a department that could be busy or slow based on the ED patient load.

High patient ratios

First of all, I want to say that I thoroughly enjoyed the team that I worked with. My issue was with the safety of the nurse patient ratio. In the main department, you could have up to 4 patients of any acuity level, the majority at level 2 esi. When in the hold area, you could have up to 7 patients and on occasion be the only person staffed in that area. No lab, no tech, no tele monitor nothing. When in the rapid care area, it is pure chaos with a paramedic tasking, one or two nurses. One nurse does all of the documentation and one does taking that the medics can’t do. There is no accountability however as no one really knows what they are dosed to be doing.
