Job Description

The Psychiatric ED Screener is a mental health worker responsible for:

• Triage, assessment, and disposition of patients seeking mental health crisis intervention in the Emergency Department (ED).
• Collaborating with ED medical staff, external agencies, psychiatry residents, and on-call psychiatrists.
• Conducting emergency suicide risk assessments and collecting collateral information from families and support networks.
• Utilizing the DSM-5 for diagnosing mental illnesses and developing psychosocial formulations.
• Coordinating with the ED attending to formulate and document disposition plans in the medical record.
• Assisting with insurance authorizations and completing safety plans for high-risk patients.
• Floating to assist inpatient units as needed.

Requirements

• Experience: Minimum of 1 year in crisis assessments in Behavioral Health or similar settings; at least 2 years of psychiatric experience required.
• Education: Master's degree in Social Work required.
• Patient Experience: Experience with pediatric, adolescent, and adult patients required.
• ED Experience: Previous experience in an Emergency Department is strongly preferred.
• References: Supervisory references from the last 2 years of employment are required.

Additional Information

• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Orientation: 8 hours of non-billable orientation.
• COVID Vaccination: Required for this health system (dose date on or after 10/3/23).
