General Information

• First-Time Travelers Accepted: Yes (must be separated for 1 year if previously a permanent staff)

Patient Care

• Patient Types:

  • Medical/Surgical/Telemetry
  • General surgery cases including Sepsis, Diabetes Mellitus, Congestive Heart Failure, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, Pneumonia, Cardiac dysrhythmias, Alcohol withdrawal, IV drug abuse, Deep vein thrombosis/Pulmonary embolism, etc.
  • Note: No hearts, brains, or transplants.

Patient Ratios

• RN Ratios:

  • Days: 1:5 with tech; 1:4 without tech
  • Nights: 1:6 with tech; 1:5 without tech
• CNA Ratios:

  • Days: 1:16
  • Nights: 1:23

Required Certifications

• Mandatory: BLS, ACLS
• Preferred: NIHSS

Required Skills

• EKG competency exam (required prior to arrival)
• Medication administration
• Telemetry experience
• Wound care
• Continuous bladder irrigation
• IV insertion skills
• Management of cardiac drips (non-titrating)
• Oxygen administration
• Central line management/care
• Pre & Post-operative care
• NG tube placement and care
• Management of G-tubes

Unit Support

• Charge Nurse: Takes patient assignment
• Phlebotomy: Shared responsibility with RN
• IV/VAT Team: Available for midline/central lines only
• RT: Available 24/7
• Hospitalist: Available 24/7
• Therapies: OT, PT, ST available
• Remote Telemonitoring: RN confirms tele tech readings once per shift

Charting System/Equipment

• EMR: Meditech Expanse (paper charting available if system goes down)
• IV Pumps: Alaris
• Medication Dispensing: Pyxis

Orientation and Scheduling

• Orientation:

  • 3 days hospital orientation
  • 2 shifts orienting to unit
• Weekend Rotation: Every other weekend
• Work Schedule: 4 days one week and 3 days the next week (mandatory)
• Time Off: Up to 7 days allowed; must extend to accommodate a 13-week contract; only one weekend off can be requested per contract
• Holiday Expectations: Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
• Blackout Dates: Halloween 2024; Black Friday 2024
