Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

  • Schedule: Eve/Night, 12-hour shifts between 19:00 - 07:30
  • Weekends: Every other weekend, holidays as needed

Job Description

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will:

  • Float across multiple departments and specialties, caring for complex and dynamic patient populations in various medical and surgical general care units and intermediate care (IMC) units.
  • Provide high-quality, evidence-based care utilizing critical thinking skills to evaluate and assess patients, recognize and escalate complications, and administer appropriate nursing interventions.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to patient and family-centered nursing care.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, enhancing interpersonal communication skills and effectively delegating tasks.
  • Serve as a mentor and role model, with opportunities to precept new nurses and students, and participate in strategic planning, quality improvement, and Shared Governance.

Experience Requirements

  • Must have experience working in different Med/Surg units (cardiac, spine, neuro).
  • Floating experience preferred.
  • Inpatient RN travelers must have completed two years of acute care experience within the last 3 years in the specialty they are submitting to.

Licensure and Certification

  • Must have a valid Wisconsin nursing license or a compact license from the permanent address state.
  • BLS certification through the American Heart Association is required.
  • Basic Arrhythmia experience is necessary; passing a Telemetry test prior to starting is required.

Minimum Requirements

  • Traveler’s permanent address must be within 50 miles of the assigned primary work site location.
  • Travelers may have shifts scheduled in multiple units based on current staffing needs.

  • University Hospital is a Level One Trauma Center and a Magnet®-designated facility, recognized as Wisconsin’s #1 hospital and a leading academic health system.
  • The contract length is 13 weeks.

Compliance and Documentation

Candidates must be prepared to provide various documents, including but not limited to:

  • Current/valid Driver's License (if driving is a requirement)
  • BLS and ACLS certifications (must be issued by the American Heart Association)
  • Background check and compliance with state-specific requirements
  • Health documents including TB tests, vaccinations, and any necessary waivers for exemptions.
