Job Summary

Under general supervision, the Radiologic Technologist specializes in performing computerized tomographic radiological procedures on patients and may also conduct general diagnostic radiology examinations.

Essential Functions

• Explain examination procedures to patients and prepare them for the examination.
• Review clinical data and perform appropriate examinations.
• Obtain additional patient medical history as necessary.
• Prepare procedure room and replenish stock (linen and related supplies).
• Analyze anatomical structures, set up equipment, and perform CT scans.
• Manually control equipment to obtain proper diagnostic information.
• Administer intravenous contrast media and monitor patients for reactions.
• Prepare and set up sterile equipment and supplies for procedures.
• Assist Radiologist in complex sterile diagnostic procedures (e.g., biopsies).
• Ensure radiation protection principles are followed.
• Resolve image exceptions and ensure high-quality image delivery into PACS.
• Complete study indexing in the Radiology Information System (RIS).
• Confirm clinical protocols with Radiologist before performing studies.
• Document in medical records and within the radiology information system.

Physical Demands/Working Conditions

• May work in a hospital setting or in an ambulatory mobile unit.
• Potential exposure to radiation and high-voltage equipment.
• May encounter potentially contagious patients.
• Occasionally lift and/or move equipment and patients exceeding 10 lbs.
