Job Description

A hospital in Eastern Nebraska is seeking travel RNs for their HVI (Cardio/General ICU/PCU/MedSurg combined Unit). Generalist ICU and PCU experience is accepted.

Requirements

• Certifications Required:

  • ACLS
  • BLS
  • NIHSS
• Experience: Minimum of 1 year with the specified patient population
• Driver's License: Required at submission to determine eligibility based on the 50-mile radius rule.

Patient Care Information

• Department: CVU
• Number of Beds: 18
• Nurse-Patient Ratios:

  • 1:4 for general patients
  • 1:3 for post-surgical patients in the first 24 hours
• Common Diagnoses/Types of Patients:

  • Intermediate care and downgraded CVICU patients
  • Thoracic program, EP, cath lab, structural heart
  • Cardiac and vascular-related diagnoses (e.g., CVAs, CHF, A fib RVR)

Responsibilities

• RNs are required to titrate drips, including Amio, nitro, nicardipine, epi, cardizem, and other medications for blood pressure management.
• RNs must read and interpret telemetry strips; remote tele techs are available for support.

Staffing and Support

• Charge Nurse: Present on each shift, rarely takes an assignment.
• Patient Care Techs: Yes, with a ratio of 1:18.
• In-House Support: Hospitalist and intensivist available 24/7, with cardiology on call after hours.
• Respiratory Therapy: Available in ICU 24/7.

Scheduling

• Shifts:

  • Day: 0630-1900
  • Night: 1830-0700
• Weekend Requirements: Every other weekend
• Floating Requirements: May float to all same level and lower levels of acuity.
• Orientation: Tailored to needs and experience, typically 1-2 shifts on the unit.

• Scrub Color: Navy Blue

Additional Information

• Radius Rule: Candidates must be outside a 50-mile radius and cannot be employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any facility associated with CommonSpirit, including CHI and/or Dignity.
• RTO (Request Time Off): Must be provided upfront (7 or fewer days per 13-week contract). Additional RTO will not be approved after submission.
