Job Opportunity: Clinical Nurse at Mt. Edgecumbe Hospital, Sitka, Alaska

Position Overview

  • Specialty: Nursing
  • Employment Type: Contract
  • Contract Length: 26 weeks (from April 1, 2025, to September 30, 2025)
  • Shifts: Must be willing to work both Day and Night shifts as necessary and float between Med/Surg/ED/ICU as required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and perform a variety of nursing care procedures for patients of all ages.
  • Make independent clinical decisions and maintain accountability for actions taken.
  • Consult with managers/supervisors in complex situations requiring additional input or resources.
  • Promote safe, therapeutic, and efficient care for patients with multisystem diseases and complications.
  • Document nursing procedures and patient responses to care accurately.
  • Educate patients and families about health conditions, treatments, and care plans.
  • Collaborate with healthcare team members to coordinate patient care activities.

Qualifications

Education/Experience

  • Valid, current, full, and unrestricted RN license in the State of Alaska.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • One year of clinical nurse experience preferred.
  • Prior experience in the area of specialty preferred.

Licenses/Certifications

  • Must have BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications upon hire.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of nursing care principles, practices, and processes.
  • Competency in recognizing and responding to emergently ill patients.
  • Familiarity with pharmaceuticals, their effects, and complications.
  • Skills in operating and monitoring basic medical equipment.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to provide guidance and work cooperatively with others.

Additional Requirements

  • Must have/obtain a flu vaccine.
  • Must be able to work the entire contract timeframe with minimal to no requested time off (RTO).
  • Engage in ongoing evaluation of educational effectiveness and participate in departmental staff meetings.
