Job Description

A hospital in West Virginia is seeking experienced Registered Nurses (RNs) for Float positions to cover Ortho units. Ideal candidates should have MedSurg/Tele experience along with low-level Ortho experience.

Requirements

• Licensure: WV or compact license required
• EMR: EPIC experience is mandatory
• Certifications: BLS certification required
• Experience: MedSurg/Tele and Ortho experience preferred

Additional Information

• Patient Ratios: Mainly 1:5-6 for both days and nights; may occasionally have 7 patients depending on acuity.
• Charge Nurse: Each unit has a charge nurse; day charge does not take patients, while night charge does.
• Nurse Aides: Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) are utilized in all units.
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (Saturday/Sunday) for both day and night shifts.
• Holidays: Participation in holiday rotation with permanent staff.
• Scrub Color: Royal Blue
• Telemetry: Phillips; RNs must be able to read and interpret strips.
• Respiratory Therapy: Available 24/7; RNs manage aerosols for non-vented patients and perform EKGs.
• IV Team: Available house-wide until 10 PM on weekdays and until 3:30 PM on weekends.
• Pharmacy: In-house pharmacy available 24/7.
• Shifts: 12-hour shifts (7 AM - 7 PM; 7 PM - 7 AM).
• Orientation: 1-2 shifts with a preceptor for floor-specific orientation.
• Common Diagnoses: CHF, cardiac catheterization, chest pain, pneumonia, chronic renal disease, COPD, Ortho, and Oncology (permanent staff administers chemotherapy).

Notes

• The manager is open to traveler requests to work primarily on 6N and will make efforts to accommodate block scheduling if requested.
• The environment is described as very traveler-friendly.
• No false nails are permitted.
