Job Summary

The Clinical Nurse provides competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards. Reporting to the Nurse Manager/Director, the nurse is responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care utilizing the nursing process in a hospital setting.

Essential Duties

• Education:

  • Identifies and meets personal learning needs.
  • Attends education programs based on identified needs.
  • Utilizes patient education materials relevant to the patient population.
  • Assesses readiness to learn of patients and families.

• Evaluation of Care:

  • Identifies expected patient outcomes and revises care plans as needed.
  • Participates in discussions with the interdisciplinary team regarding patient care.
  • Communicates relevant information to promote continuity of care.

• Implementation:

  • Demonstrates competence in caring for patients with complex problems.
  • Performs bedside point of care testing as required.
  • Organizes and prioritizes care according to patient/family needs.
  • Consults with appropriate resources regarding complex care issues.

• Leadership:

  • Develops goals for professional growth.
  • Participates in unit goals and performance improvement activities.
  • Promotes cost-effective care and provides feedback to co-workers.

• Patient Assessment:

  • Recognizes data from complex situations to determine care priorities.
  • Assesses and anticipates discharge needs of patients and families.
  • Develops relationships with families to advocate for patient needs.

• Planning:

  • Collaborates with patients/families to prepare or update care plans.
  • Identifies and addresses cultural and ethnic issues in patient care.

• Research:

  • Engages with relevant journals and brings ideas to staff for assessment.
