Job Opportunity: Nursing Educator at Mt. Edgecumbe Hospital, Sitka, Alaska

Position Overview

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain a consortium-wide nursing education program to meet regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure nursing competency of all assigned staff, including new hires.
  • Design, teach, and evaluate training programs.
  • Act as an internal training and organizational development consultant.
  • Provide career development resources and coordinate clinical specialty training programs.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care delivery.
  • Oversee the nursing service orientation program and ensure consistency across orientation programs.
  • Facilitate communication regarding continuing education opportunities within the community.
  • Participate in evidence-based research to improve professional development activities and patient outcomes.

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing.
  • Master's degree in Nursing, Business Administration, Education, Sociology, or a related field.
  • Current full, unrestricted Registered Nurse license in Alaska.
  • ACLS, BLS, and PALS instructor certification.

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of professional nursing experience, with at least 2 years as a staff RN in a specialty (ER, ICU, OB, OR).
  • At least 1 year of nursing supervisory responsibilities.
  • 3 years of instructor experience, preferably at the hospital or college level.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of professional nursing principles, practices, and procedures.
  • Skills in developing and evaluating standards of care and training modalities.
  • Ability to create effective education for adult learners and provide a positive training environment.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

Additional Requirements

  • Must have a background in education experience.
  • Must have an active Alaska nursing license and all vaccinations at the time of submission.
