  • Level 1 trauma center in Mississippi needs RN's for the Hematology/Oncology unit. Chemo cert is NOT required. Must have solid experience as an RN - at least 1 yr on first job. 1 or more yrs of Level 1 or VERY Large hospital experience required. Travel experience with extension is preferred. EPIC CHARTING experience is required.

    Schedule information
  • 12 hours, 7a-7p or 7p-7a.
  • Expected to fill holes but managers will try to accommodate block scheduling as schedule allows.
  • Open to weekenders if traveler would like to work every weekend but that is not required.
  • Every other or 2 weekends per month is standard, could be higher to meet needs of department.
  • Rotate in with regular staff for holiday requirement.
    Unit specific information
  • # Beds: 32
  • Nurse:Patient Ratios: typical ratio for all medsurg units is 1:5 up to 1:6 at times.
  • Required certifications (i.e., BLS, ACLS?): BLS, charge RN's have ACLS.
  • Common diagnoses/Types of patients: hem/onc, chemo.
  • Are RNs required to titrate drips?: heparin, could have an order for amio and that can be started and then patient would be transferred to cardiac unit.
  • Common titratable &/or set rate drips: cardiac drips on 3south only.
  • Charge Nurse/House Supervisor?: Does the charge nurse take an assignment? Both.
  • Are there nurse aids on this unit/Ratios: all units.
  • RT Equipment (i.e., Cpap, BiPap, High Flow, vents, etc.): cpap bipap at night, RT to help, high flow on 2n.
  • Floating Requirements?: within skillset, all staff float between all medsurg units. higher acuity patients would be given to core staff.
  • Scrub Color/Dress Code/Scrubs provided?: any color, needs to be solid color and professional.
  • Unit/Department specific orientation: first day, all paperwork and attestations, logins for Omnicell and Epic, show around unit (a few hours), discuss scheduling. 2 additional shifts with preceptor;12 HR DAYS
    Additional Details
  • 50 mile radius rule for travelers
  • FLU VACCINE IS REQUIRED at UMMC - only medical exemption is allowed and requires documented evidence from a health care provider of a past severe reaction to the vaccine.
  • FINGERPRINT REQUIREMENT - Remote process must allow 10 days, In Person can be done at Jackson or Grenada campus the week prior to start.
  • OPEN TO 48 HRS/WK @ Flat Rate (OT billed after 48hrs).
  • Must work at least 3 of the following 6 dates: Thanksgiving, Black Friday, Christmas Eve, Christmas, New Years Eve, New Years.
