Job Description
The role involves providing both routine and complex nursing care in a clinical setting. The nurse will practice independently, demonstrating awareness of all relevant aspects of patient care. Responsibilities include:
- Utilizing the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, evaluation) for assigned patients.
- Addressing complex psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and families.
- Administering medications and treatments, monitoring for side effects and effectiveness.
- Documenting patient history, symptoms, medication, and care provided.
- Educating patients, family members, and caregivers on care and resources.
Core Competencies
Utilization of the Nursing Process:
- Critical thinking to assess patient needs.
- Development and modification of care plans based on evidence-based practice.
- Implementation and evaluation of patient care and therapeutic procedures.
Patient Throughput & Flow Process:
- Planning for admission, discharge, and transfer needs.
- Facilitating communication for the discharge process.
Unit Operations:
- Planning and evaluating nursing care during assigned shifts.
- Assessing staffing needs and participating in resource efforts.
Safe Practice/Quality Care/Regulations:
- Incorporating patient safety practices to promote positive outcomes.
- Demonstrating accountability for nursing research and quality improvement.
Technical Competencies
- Clinical Policies and Standards: Ensuring compliance with clinical procedures and standards.
- Health Information Documentation: Maintaining accurate patient records and documentation.
- Medical Equipment: Familiarity with basic medical equipment and ensuring proper functioning.
- Medical Order Processing: Processing medical orders accurately and efficiently.
- Patient Chart Reading and Interpretation: Reviewing and interpreting patient charts for accuracy.
Job Requirements
- Education: Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 1 year in the related nursing specialty preferred.
- Licenses/Certifications:
- BLS required.
- RN License in the state of employment or compact.
- Current STABLE certification and NRP certification required within specified timeframes.
Position Requirements
- Newly hired experienced RNs must attend New Nurses Orientation within the first 30 days.
- Completion of all annual competency verification requirements is necessary.
