Job Description

• Assess patients on admission, considering physical, psychosocial, cultural, and spiritual needs.
• Reassess health needs at least every shift and establish/update a plan of care based on data from reassessments.
• Administer medications (oral, topical, parental) while adhering to the 7 rights of medication administration.
• Document effectiveness and any adverse effects of medications and treatments.
• Perform treatments and procedures following nursing practices, hospital policies, and patient privacy standards.
• Educate patients and families based on assessed needs, utilizing appropriate resources.
• Analyze diagnostic data and communicate changes in patients’ clinical conditions to the healthcare team.
• Use SBAR communication for all handoffs and participate in multidisciplinary care planning.
• Follow hospital policies regarding patient rights, safety, and infection control.
• Understand and implement disaster plans and rapid response protocols.

Requirements

• Certifications: PALS, BLS
• Licensure: California RN License
• Experience: 3 years of recent PICU acute care experience in a facility; may float to other units.
• Shift Requirements:

  • 1-3 shifts per week
  • Days: 7 AM - 7:30 PM
  • Must be willing to float to Pediatric/PICU, OB (newborns only), NICU, and Med Surg (sitter only).

Additional Information

• Knowledge of blood transfusion policies and documentation.
• Familiarity with National Patient Safety Goals and hospital infection control policies.
• Ability to manage patients in restraints per policy and follow guidelines for Core Measures and vaccine control.
