Position Overview

Job Description
- Candidates must have 3 full years of current ICU experience, including either neuro or cardiovascular experience.
- Travelers may float to the sister facility, Mercy Gilbert, if needed.
- Flexibility in scheduling is essential, with a typical requirement of working every other weekend, potentially increasing to three weekends a month if the unit is busy.
- A dysrhythmia exam must be passed upon offer (maximum of 2 attempts).
- A pass/fail Sim Lab will occur on Day 1 of orientation (study guides provided).
Unit Details
- Surgical ICU:
- Beds: 32
- Nurse:Patient Ratios: 1:2, 1:1
- Common Diagnoses: Level 1 trauma, falls, gunshot wounds, blunt trauma, motor vehicle accidents, trauma patients over age 15, craniotomies, specialty neuro-surgery cases, CVA, COVID, sepsis, ARDS.
- Medical ICU:
- Beds: 36 Medical Cardiac + 12 bed overflow
- Nurse:Patient Ratios: 1:2, 1:1
- Common Diagnoses: Sepsis, COVID, DKA, ARDS, vascular surgeries, post-operative care for CABG, valves, and ECMO.
Skills and Responsibilities
- RNs are required to titrate drips, including but not limited to:
- Propofol, fentanyl, versed, precedex, morphine, dilaudid, ketamine, rocuronium, levophed, vasopressin, cardene, labetalol, dopamine, dobutamine, heparin, insulin.
- Charge nurses do not take patients.
- No nurse aids on the unit; only used for sitters and as Health Unit Secretary.
- Hospitalist or Intensivist available 24/7.
- Respiratory Therapy available in ICU 24/7.
Scheduling
- Self-Scheduling: Allowed, but the manager may need to balance shifts based on unit needs.
- Weekend Requirements: 3 weekend shifts in a 4-week schedule.
- Holiday Requirements: May have 1 holiday off during the assignment.
- Floating Requirements: May float to telemetry with a 1:3 or 1:4 ratio as needed.
Additional Notes
- Expectation to float between all 3 ICUs (Surgical, Medical, and Overflow).
- First-time travelers are welcome, but must have 3 years of experience (with 2 years in the ICU).
- Level 1 experience or neuro experience is preferred but not required.
