Unit Specifics

  • Unit Name: ICU
  • Number of Beds: 32
  • Patient Ratios: 2:1
  • Unit Staffing: Includes unit secretary available from 0730 to 0000.
  • Documentation System: Meditech

Scheduling Requirements

  • Shifts: 3 twelve-hour shifts per week, with every other weekend or 4 weekend shifts in a 4-week schedule.

Floating Policy

  • Floating to similar units as needed, including:
    • NS ICU
    • Cardiac Telemetry
    • Progressive Care Unit
    • Burn Unit
    • ED Inpatient Overflow

Patient Experience Requirements

  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years in ICU, with a preference for ICU experience.

Required Certifications

  • Mandatory:
    • ACLS
    • BLS
    • NIHSS
  • Preferred: TNCC

Requested Skill Set

  • Trauma patient management
  • IV administration of vasoactive medications
  • Ventilator management
  • Chest tube management
  • Care of post-op surgical patients
  • Cardiac rhythm identification and management
  • Hemodynamic monitoring
  • Care of stroke patients

Advanced Skills Needed

  • Hemodynamic and ventilator management

Procedures Performed on Unit

  • Chest tube placement
  • Ventriculostomy
  • Moderate sedation
  • CRRT
  • Therapeutic hypothermia

Dress Code

  • Top: Navy scrub top (no t-shirts)
  • Bottoms: Navy or black scrub bottoms
