Job Description

A hospital in West Virginia is seeking Tele travel nurses for their PCU/Stepdown unit.

Unit Information

• Unit Type: PCU - Stepdown
• Number of Beds: 11 (expanding to 12 following ICU expansion later in 2023)
• Patient Ratios: 1 nurse to 4 patients

Required Certifications

• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
• NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)

Common Diagnoses/Patient Types

• Post-operative vascular patients
• Hemodynamically stable cardiac dysrhythmias
• CVA (Cerebrovascular Accident)
• Sepsis
• Renal patients
• Stable acute MI (Myocardial Infarction)
• Unstable angina
• Post Cardiac Catheterization with PCTA or significant blockage

Experience Requirements

• 1-2 years of critical care experience
• ICU skill set required (Bipap, Cpap, Mechanical Ventilation, telemetry, critical drips, post cardiac cath care)
• Experience with CRRT (Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy) and IABP (Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump) preferred

Responsibilities

• Nurses are required to titrate drips (e.g., Insulin, Cardizem, Heparin, Amiodarone, Low-dose Dopamine)
• Charge Nurse in ICU serves as a resource for PCU
• Travel staff may be required to float to Med-Surg Telemetry or the Emergency Department as needed

Staffing and Support

• Nurse Aids: Yes, one PCT (C.N.A) for every 10 patients
• Monitor Tech: Available 24/7 for telemetry

Shift Requirements

• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Holiday Requirement: Rotational holidays

Dress Code

• RN/LPN Scrubs: Navy
• C.N.As/Monitor Techs Scrubs: Dark Grey/Pewter
• Scrubs must be solid color with no embroidery or patterns
• Closed-toed shoes only; no crocs

Orientation

• General hospital orientation on the first day
• Full day of Nursing Orientation for RNs/LPNs
• Computer training (1/2 day for C.N.As, full day for nurses)
• Two 12-hour orientation shifts with a preceptor
• Initial Skills Checklist due 90 days from start date
