Unit Information

• Unit Name: PCU
• Number of Beds:

  • Unit 630: 34 beds
  • Unit 633: 25 beds
• Patient Ratios:

  • Days: 1:4 to 1:5
  • Nights: 1:5 to 1:6
• Staffing:

  • 3 techs when full on 630
  • 2 techs when full on 633
• Equipment Used:

  • Bipaps, high flow O2, vapotherm, alaris pumps, cardiac drips, heparin drips, insulin drips, peritoneal dialysis, wound vacs (in conjunction with wound care)
• Documentation System: Meditech
• Scheduling Requirements:

  • Every other weekend
  • 3 twelve-hour shifts per week
• Floating Policy: May float between PCU units or to med-surg floors
• Patient Experience Requirements:

  • Hourly rounding on days
  • Every 2-hour rounding on nights
  • AIDET and maintaining communication boards

Required Skills and Certifications

• Must Have:

  • Critical thinking skills
  • EKG rhythm interpretation
  • Experience with cardiac drips, insulin drips, and heparin drips
  • Peripheral IV skills
• Preferred Skills:

  • Peritoneal dialysis experience
  • Experience with bipaps, high flow O2, stroke care, and post-cardiac cath care
  • Tube feeding and NG/dobhoff tube experience
• Procedures Performed on Unit:

  • Peritoneal dialysis, thoracentesis, paracentesis, chest tube insertions, dobhoff/NG tube insertions, central line dressing changes, troubleshooting wound vacs
• Certifications Required: BLS, ACLS
