Job Description
The SICU (Surgical Intensive Care Unit) population includes trauma patients, cardiovascular surgery patients (such as TAVRs and CABGs directly from the OR), neurosurgery patients, and other complicated surgical patients.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Virginia or compact nursing license
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- NIH Stroke Certification
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a similar role
Special Skills/Requirements
- Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Arterial line management
- Blood product administration
- Experience with diagnoses such as:
- Acute ventilator need
- COVID+ with high O2 demand
- DKA (Diabetic Ketoacidosis)
- Severe sepsis
- Unstable GI bleed
- Trauma cases
- Open heart recovery
- Multi-system organ failure
- CRRT (Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy)
Work Environment
- Patient Ratios: 1:2-3 (appropriate to skill level and acuity)
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- On-call Requirement: No
- Floating: Yes, within scope to meet facility needs
- Local Candidates Accepted: Yes

- Physical Exam: Required within 1 year prior to start
- Drug Testing: Required within 30 days prior to start
- TB Testing: Required within 1 year prior to start
- Vaccinations: Proof of flu vaccination required during flu season; COVID vaccinations not required but documentation must be on file.
References
- Two references required from the past 2 years, preferably from a manager or supervisor.
