- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
- AZ license or compact license (TNCC preferred)
Unit Information
Surgical ICU
- Number of Beds: 32
- Nurse:Patient Ratios: 1:2, 1:1
- Common Diagnoses/Types of Patients:
- Trauma patients (falls, GSW, blunt trauma, MVAs)
- Specialty neuro-surgery cases
- CVA, status post-TPA, COVID, sepsis, ARDS
- Titration of Drips Required: Yes
- Common Titrated Drips:
- Propofol, fentanyl, versed, precedex, morphine, dilaudid, ketamine, rocuronium, levophed, vasopressin, cardene, labetalol, dopamine, dobutamine, heparin, insulin
- Charge Nurse: Yes, does not take patients
- RT in ICU: Yes, 24/7
- Equipment: Dreager, Hamilton, Puritan Bennett 840, V60s BiPap, Airvo
Medical ICU
- Number of Beds: 36 Medical Cardiac + 12 bed overflow
- Nurse:Patient Ratios: 1:2, 1:1
- Common Diagnoses/Types of Patients:
- Sepsis, COVID, DKA, Flu, ARDS, vascular surgeries
- CVICU cases including CABG, valves, post-caths, ECMO
- Titration of Drips Required: Yes
- Charge Nurse: Yes, does not take patients
- RT in ICU: Yes, 24/7
- Equipment: Same as Surgical ICU
Scheduling
- Self-Scheduling: Yes, but may require balancing shifts for unit needs.
- Weekend Requirements: Typically every other weekend; may require up to 3 weekends a month if the unit is busy.
- Holiday Requirements: May have 1 holiday off during the assignment.
- Floating Requirements: Float to telemetry with a 1:3 or 1:4 ratio as needed.
Additional Information
- Dysrhythmia Exam: Required prior to acceptance (max 2 attempts).
- Sim Lab: Pass/fail on Day 1 of orientation.
- Orientation: 1-2 days specific to the unit/department.
- Dress Code: Navy scrubs.
- Additional Notes: First-time travelers are welcome, but must have 3 years of experience (2 years in ICU preferred). Expectation to float between all 3 ICUs.
