Job Description
The Nuclear Medicine Technologist will perform routine and specialized nuclear medicine procedures for patients of all ages to confirm or deny required treatment, adapting procedures to obtain specific diagnostic results under the direction of a radiologist.
Essential Functions
- Perform diagnostic Nuclear Medicine procedures ensuring accurate and complete examinations.
- Exhibit competency in diagnostic imaging and radionuclide therapy.
- Complete scheduling, ordering radiopharmaceuticals, and patient preparation.
- Administer and document all radiopharmaceuticals.
- Maintain quality care and practice radiation protection (ALARA).
- Conduct required equipment quality control and document quality control records.
- Follow all conditions of radioactive material licenses and regulations.
- Perform patient bedside lab testing and associated quality control.
- Maintain knowledge of equipment and procedures across multiple areas of the department.
- Troubleshoot equipment operation and ensure general safety.
- Maintain a clean work area and manage supplies.
- Handle radioactive packages and prepare doses for disposition.
- Demonstrate skills in patient moving and handling, ensuring safety.
- Support the Nuclear Medicine/PET Department to meet patient needs.
- Train fellow technologists/students and promote cost-effective care.
- Process films and paperwork promptly for timely reporting.
- Coordinate patient flow for efficient care and transport.
- Enter patient information accurately into the RIS system and medical records.
- Maintain QA, QC, and QI programs.
- Share knowledge and encourage adherence to department protocols.
