Job requirements

ACLS Preferred, BLS.
- Common diagnosis / Types of patients: MedSurg/Tele- joint replacements, fractures, colon resections, COPD exacerbation, prostatectomy, cellulitis, sepsis, ortho trauma, GI bleeds, pneumonia, failure to thrive.
- Are RN's required to titrate drips?: Heparin, lidocaine, and ketamine.
- Common titratable &/or set rate drips: PCA pumps.

Schedule information

- Shifts & Scheduling: 0630-1900, 1830-0700. Travelers will be scheduled. Will approve a limited amount of block scheduling.
- Weekend Requirements: Every other weekend.
- Holiday Requirements: 1 major, 1 minor.
- Floating Requirements: Yes to other medical surgical areas or units with MedSurg patients waiting for a MedSurg bed.

There are mechanical lifts in every other room, Big focus on hourly rounding and responsiveness, This unit typically has multiple discharged and admissions in one day- a nurse is successful on this unit when they can manage the business of the day, have good attendance, are a team player, friendly, compassionate, and cares about patients first.
They serve patients of all cultures on this unit including Spanish, Karen, Burmese.

- Nurse:Patient Ratios: 1:5-6.
- Is there a Charge Nurse on each shift? Does the charge nurse take an assignment?: Yes.
- Are there nurse aids/patient care techs on this unit? Ratios? Duties?: Yes- 1:10-20.
- Are there Tele/Monitor Techs on this unit? Are RN's required to read their own strips? What brand are the tele monitors?: Tele techs will interpret, RNs should have some tele awareness.
- Scrub Color/Dress Code/Scrubs Provided?: RNs: Navy Blue.
- How many shifts of unit/department specific orientation?: 2 days.
