Job Description

  • Minimum Years of Experience: 2 years in Neuro ICU (strong neuro experience required)
  • Traveler Experience: 1st time travelers accepted

    • IV Start
    • Neuro Intensive Care Unit
    • Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
    • Blood Product Administration
    • Central line care/management
    • Continuous IV sedation
    • CVA/Acute Stroke management
    • External ventricular drains (EVD)
    • ICP Monitoring
    • Post Neurosurgery management
    • Care of Ventilated Patients
    • Isolation Precautions/Use of PPE
    • Lumbar Drain experience
  • Certifications:
    • ACLS
    • BCLS
    • NIH Stroke Certification

Preferred Skills/Certifications/Experience

  • Skills:
    • Arterial line management

Job Details

  • Patient Ratios: 2:1 (can flex to 3:1 in high census)
  • Average Daily Census: 11-12
  • Shift: 12-hour nights (18:45 - 07:15)
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Float Requirement: Yes
  • Call Requirement: None

Patient Diagnoses

  • Comprehensive stroke center with a patient population including:
    • Ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes
    • Subdural hematomas (SDH)
    • Craniotomies
    • Carotid stents and endarterectomies
    • Aneurysm coiling/clipping
    • Seizures
    • Myasthenia gravis

Special Equipment

  • EVD, Lumbar Drains, Camino, LICOX, NICOM, Arctic Sun

Unit Systems

  • Pyxis, EPIC, SBAR

Orientation

  • Duration: 24 hours (2 days or 2 nights)

Scrubs

  • Navy blue & white

Additional Information

  • Internal Notes:
    • Must pass EKG Testing prior to start
    • Strong Neuro Critical Care background required
    • RTO after booking is not allowed
