  • A hospital in Idaho is in need of a PACU RN to work a 13 week contract ASAP. The nurse will be working 9 hour days.
    Job requirements
  • Must have experience traveling and caring for both children and adults.
  • We prefer candidates from large hospitals that have had at least 2 years in PACU.
  • EMR EPIC experience required.
  • Floating rarely happens. If they would it would only be in Treasure Valley-Meridian or Nampa, If a traveler has preop experience may float them to Preop.
    Schedule information
  • Shifts are 4- nine hour shifts Mon-Fri 10-1930, 11-2030, 12-2130.
  • Weeknight/Call Requirements: not required, but may ask for volunteers if there is a need.
  • Weekend/Call Requirements: not required, but may ask for volunteers if there is a need.
  • Holiday/Call Requirements: not required, but may ask for volunteers if there is a need.
  • What is call response time: will discuss if they take a call shift.
  • How many shifts of unit/department specific orientation: Generally 3 days to learn the three recovery areas: Peds, Adult Inpatient, Adult outpatient.
    Unit specific information
  • Unit: Post Operative Care Boise Hospital
  • # of beds: 31
  • Phase 1 and Phase 2: Phase I and II. 3 total recovery areas- Children's recovery for both inpatient and outpatient, Main recovery for Adult inpatients, and Adult outpatient recovery- Phase I and II recoveries in each area. Can cover all 3 recovery areas in the same shift.
  • Nurse:Patient Ratios: 1:2 based on ASPAN standards. 25 RNs are staffed Mon-Fri.
  • Common Cases: All surgical specialties. A lot of total joints, neuro, cardiac, some plastics, cath lab, IR, endoscopy, any patient that requires general anesthesia will be recovered here. Peds-a lot of ENT-tonsillectomies, ear tubes, can get complicated children with big spine surgeries, big general or ortho too. Open hearts are NOT recovered in PACU.
  • ICU patients - do they recover in PACU: Yes- unless staying intubated is the plan.
  • RNs read strips: Yes.
  • Are there nurse aids on this unit/Ratios: We staff 8 CNAs staffed Mon-Fri. Mainly help with transport but do help with mobility assessments, taking out IVs, bladder trials, can do EKGs and phlebotomy, room turnover, stretcher cleaning.
  • RT Equipment: All RT equipment- patients rarely come out intubated, if they do RT is called to help support; may have an airway in place.
