Job Description

The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Emergency Department is responsible for:

  • Delivering safe patient care using the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation).
  • Providing direct patient care within the scope of practice.
  • Directing and guiding patient/family teaching and activities of other nursing personnel.
  • Maintaining professional nursing care standards in Telemetry.
  • Communicating with physicians regarding changes in patient clinical conditions and diagnostic study results.
  • Responding quickly and accurately to changes in patient conditions and treatment responses.
  • Knowledge of EMTALA regulations and reporting of abuse to appropriate agencies.

Required Qualifications

  1. Current and valid state RN License.
  2. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  3. Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  4. Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
  5. NIHSS or Stroke Certification (preferred).
  6. COVID vaccination/boosters (preferred).
  7. EDAP 1 and 2 training.
  8. BVP (MAB) training.
  9. EPIC EMR experience.

Additional Requirements

  • COVID-19 Vaccination: 2 vaccines and booster required or declination completed.
  • MMR: Proof of 2 vaccines or positive titer showing immunity; declinations accepted.
  • Fit Test: Annual respirator fit test; can be completed onsite.
  • Hepatitis B: Declinations accepted.
  • Influenza Vaccine: Required from October 1 to May 31; declinations accepted.
  • TB Test: Must be completed within 6 months of onboarding.
  • Driver's License/State ID: Required.
  • Varicella: Vaccination/titer showing immunity; declinations accepted.
  • Tdap: Declinations accepted.
  • Physical/Health Statement: Must be completed within 1 year of onboarding.
  • Criminal Background Check: National check within one year of start date.
  • Prime Core Competencies Exam: Must score 80% or higher.
  • Prime Skills Checklist: Completion required.
  • Prime Specialty Exam: Must score 80% or higher.
  • Prime Job Description: Signed by employee.
  • Prime CA Sexual Harassment Prevention Training: Valid for 2 years.
  • Drug Screening: Minimum 10-panel test required within 60 days of start.

Certifications

  • BLS, ACLS, PALS, and DCI/BVP certifications are required from recognized organizations (American Heart Association or Red Cross).

Notes

  • A clear headshot photo may be required for onboarding.
  • Documentation of previous positive TB skin test or Quantiferon must be submitted for chest x-ray acceptance.
  • Must be prepared to provide a notarized name affidavit for any name discrepancies between credentials.
