Requirements
- Experience: Minimum of 1 year in Cardiac ICU
- Certifications Required:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
- Driver's License: Required at submission to determine eligibility based on the 50-mile radius rule.
Unit Information
- Department: Medical Surgical Cardiac ICU
- Number of Beds: 16
- Nurse-Patient Ratios: 1:2 with occasional 1:1 for specific cases (e.g., TPA, balloon pump, recovery of crani)
- Common Diagnoses/Types of Patients:
- Young adults through geriatrics
- Sepsis, STEMI, COVID, stroke, neurosurgery, renal failure, respiratory failure, COPD, cancer, DKA
- Equipment Used:
- Gaymar Hypothermia, Arrow Balloon Pump, Camino Neuro monitoring, CRRT, Impella, EVDs, Lumbar drains
- Drip Management: RNs required to titrate drips (sedation, paralytics, pressors, antihypertensives, heparin, insulin)
Additional Information
- Charge Nurse: Present on each shift; does take an assignment.
- Support Staff: Nurse aids/patient care techs available (1:10 ratio).
- Tele/Monitor Techs: RNs required to read and interpret their own strips.
- Scheduling: Unit schedulers will create the schedule; self-scheduling and block scheduling are not mentioned.
- Weekend Requirements: Every other weekend.
- Holiday Requirements: As needed.
- Floating Requirements: Mainly to PCU, but may float to other areas based on abilities.
- Dress Code: Navy Blue scrubs.
- Orientation: 2 shifts of unit/department-specific orientation.
Work Environment
- Fast-paced unit with an eICU remote monitoring system.
- Focus on bedside shift report and intentional hourly rounding.
- Seeking highly motivated nurses who can critically think through complex situations.
- Culturally diverse community; ability to embrace differences and provide high-quality care is essential.
Additional Notes
- RTO (Request Time Off) needed upfront (7 or fewer days per 13-week contract). Additional RTO will not be approved after submissions.
- Candidates may not be employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any facility associated with CommonSpirit, including CHI and/or Dignity.
