• Shifts: 12-hour night shifts (0630-1830, 1830-0630)
• Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
• Weekend Requirements: Every third weekend
• Holiday Requirements: Rotating with permanent staff
• Floating Requirements: Yes, to MedSurg or ICU for PCU acuity patients

Qualifications

• Experience Required: 2 years of unit experience
• Certifications Required:

  • BLS
  • ACLS
  • NIHSS
• Driver's License: Required at submission to determine eligibility based on the 50-mile radius rule.

Unit Information

• Department: PCU
• Bed Capacity: 40 beds with an average daily census of 24
• Patient Ratios: 1:4-5 for both days and nights
• Common Diagnoses/Types of Patients:

  • Adults with cardiac med/surg issues
  • Dialysis
  • Cancer diagnoses
  • Vascular issues
  • Sepsis
  • Adult respiratory conditions
  • Stroke
  • Post-stent and post-pacer placement
  • Renal failure
• Titration of Drips: Yes, RNs are required to titrate drips (e.g., Heparin, Nitro, Dopamine, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Insulin).

Staffing and Support

• Charge Nurse: Yes, present on each shift; charge nurse takes an assignment.
• Nurse Aids/Patient Care Techs: Yes, with a ratio of 1:12.
• Respiratory Equipment: RNs are required to troubleshoot high flow equipment.
• Tele/Monitor Techs: RNs must read and interpret their own strips.

Additional Information

• Orientation: 1 week of unit/department-specific orientation.
• Dress Code: Navy Blue scrubs.
• Work Environment: Focus on patient experience scores, responsiveness, and communication about medications. The unit serves diverse cultural populations, primarily Hispanic and Somalian.
• Flexibility: Candidates must be flexible, willing to learn, and open to feedback.

• Requests for time off (RTO) must be submitted upfront (7 or fewer days per 13-week contract). Additional RTO will not be approved after submissions.
