Outdoor activities are plentiful, including hiking and fishing within the city’s borders but only minutes from downtown is Chugach State Park, a 9,000-square-mile park with spectacular terrain for hiking, biking, ATV rides, kayaking, rafting and fishing. Nearby at Beluga Point, watch for the famous white whales that look like they sport permanent grins.
