Job Description

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) works under the direction of a registered nurse and is responsible for:

• Maintaining a safe and clean environment in patient rooms and service areas.
• Assisting licensed personnel with basic patient needs.
• Monitoring health and vital signs.

Qualifications

• Education: High School graduate or equivalent.
• Experience:

  • 2 years of experience required.
  • Must have hospital experience.
  • Previous experience as a nurse aide/residential aide/patient aide is preferred.
  • Completion of a nurse aide, multi-skilled tech, or patient care tech course(s) is acceptable.
  • Completion of one clinical semester in an LPN/RN program is also acceptable.

Certification/Licensure

• Current American Heart Association BLS certification is required.
• Certified Nurse’s Aide license or Patient Care Technician certification is required.

Work Schedule

• Weekend Requirements: Every other weekend.
• Holiday Requirements: Every other holiday.
• Request Time Off (RTO): No more than 3 days.

Physical Requirements

• Lifting: Up to 50 lbs.
• Frequent crouching, reaching, carrying, pushing, talking, and vision.
• Occasional walking and hearing.

Orientation and Training

• Workers must be available for the full 7 days of their first week for orientation.
• Orientation includes a virtual meeting and mandatory classes from Tuesday to Thursday.
• Attendance at the POCT class is required in the 2nd or 3rd week of the assignment.
