Job Description

  • Specialty: Respiratory Care
  • Patient Population: General, NICU, and PICU
  • Experience Required:
    • Minimum of 2+ years in Respiratory Care
    • Must be comfortable with high-risk deliveries and supporting NICU/PICU
    • Previous experience with at least one 13-week assignment is required (no first-time travelers)

Patient Types (Common Diagnoses)

  • COPD, CHF, Flu, Pneumonia, COVID, ARDS, Lung Cancer, Stroke, ALS, post-CABG, post-Liver/Kidney Transplant, Oral and Maxillofacial surgery, Radical Head/Neck surgeries requiring tracheostomy
  • Minor Trauma – MVA
  • GBS, RSV, Cystic Fibrosis, high-risk delivery neonates

Required Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) – required
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) – required
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) – preferred
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – preferred
  • National Accreditation through NBRC – required
  • LA State Licensure – required
  • Valid driver’s license and proof of vehicle insurance

Skills Required

  • High-risk delivery experience, including intubation of neonates
  • Airway and ventilator management
  • ABG puncture and analysis
  • Non-invasive ventilation
  • Code Blue and rapid response experience
  • Inhaled medication administration, including nitric oxide

Equipment Used

  • Servo U, Servo I, Trilogy, V60, EV300, Vapotherm HVT, Vapotherm Precision Flow, Airvo 2, Percussion Air IPV, ResMed Lumis TX (COPD)
  • NICU equipment: Oscillator, Neopuff for deliveries

Department Support

  • Director of Respiratory Care
  • Assistant Director of Respiratory Care
  • Shift Supervisors and Team Leads
  • RT Educators and Department Coordinator

Orientation and Scheduling

  • Orientation: 2 days of NEO orientation for the system, covering all 4 facilities
  • Scheduling:
    • 36/48 hour rotation
    • Shift Times: 7a-7p; 7p-7a
    • Weekend rotation: Every other weekend
    • Call not required; overtime may be available with approval

  • Floating Required: Flexibility to float between all 4 campuses (20-25 minutes driving distance)
