Job Summary

The Maternal Fetal Medical Sonographer performs a variety of perinatal ultrasound procedures using high-frequency sound waves to evaluate internal organs and vessels for the diagnosis of disease in utero.

Essential Duties

• Prepare exam room and obtain informed consent.
• Request accurate clinical history as necessary for the exam.
• Review patient history and select appropriate protocols.
• Explain examination methods and position patients.
• Assess patient status and needs, completing diagnostic techniques/tests.
• Review and evaluate completed tests for quality and completeness.
• Ensure quality images and coordinate preparation of images/exams for physician partners.
• Document and communicate patient-related information thoroughly and accurately.
• Inform patients of physician’s instructions and take observations into consideration for care.
• Meet the needs of patients, families, and the multi-disciplinary team through effective communication and coordination.
• Ensure safe and effective hand-off between shifts.
• Monitor equipment reliability and safety, reporting issues as needed.
• Order and stock supplies, clean rooms and equipment.
• Transport patients as needed.
• Actively participate in quality initiatives, including patient satisfaction and workflow.
• May be required to float to other departments based on business needs.
• May be required to be on-call during a regularly scheduled shift.

Required Skills & Experience

• Two years of MFM perinatal scanning experience.
• Effective and diplomatic communication skills within a multi-functional team.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to function in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment.
• Proficiency in computer usage, including Microsoft Office Suite, and ability to learn relevant applications.

Preferred Skills & Experience

• Knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy preferred.
