Requirements

  • Experience: 1 year of unit experience
  • Certifications Required:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
    • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
  • Driver's License: Required at submission to determine eligibility based on the 50-mile radius rule.

Patient Care Information

  • Number of Beds: 33
  • Nurse to Patient Ratios: 1:4-5
  • Common Diagnoses/Types of Patients:
    • Young adults through geriatrics
    • Sepsis, STEMI, CHF, chest pain, COVID, stroke, renal failure, COPD, DKA
    • Patients with complex medical issues including multisystem failure
  • Titration of Drips: Required
  • Common Titratable & Set Rate Drips:
    • Heparin, Amiodarone, Cardizem, Nitroglycerin, IV antibiotics, Insulin

Staffing and Support

  • Charge Nurse: Yes, charge nurse takes an assignment.
  • Nurse Aids/Patient Care Techs: Available with a 1:10 ratio, fluctuating based on unit census.
  • Respiratory Therapy Equipment: BiPAP, Airvo
  • Tele/Monitor Techs: Yes, RNs must read and interpret their own strips.

Scheduling

  • Shifts:
    • Day Shift: 0630-1900
    • Night Shift: 1830-0700
  • Weekend Requirements: Every other weekend
  • Holiday Requirements: As needed
  • Floating Requirements: May float to MedSurg, Inpatient Rehab, or Skilled Care
  • Orientation:
    • First week classroom training followed by 2-12 hour shifts on the floor.

Additional Notes

  • Dress Code: Navy Blue scrubs for RNs
  • Patient Flow: Busy environment with admitting and discharging within the same 6-hour timeframe.
  • Attributes for Success: Strong teamwork, friendly and positive attitude, engagement in positive patient experience, commitment to bedside report and hourly rounding.

Radius Rule

  • Candidates must be outside a 50-mile radius and may not be employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any facility associated with CommonSpirit, including CHI and/or Dignity.

Time Off

  • RTO (Request Time Off) needed upfront (7 or fewer days per 13-week contract). Additional RTO will not be approved after submission.
