Position Details

Job Description

  • Primary Focus: Medical Surgical patients with Oncology history and occasional Chemotherapy administration.
  • Target Ratios: 1:6
  • Shift: Nights
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend required.
  • Call Requirement: Call required if called off on a prescheduled shift.
  • Floating Requirement: Required to float to similar units and alternate care locations.

Required Skills and Certifications

  • Experience: Minimum of 1 year in an inpatient setting (Med/Surg, Oncology).
  • Skills:
    • Administer chemotherapy
    • Colostomy care
    • Accessing ports
    • Blood product administration
    • Central line blood draw
    • Peripheral line care/management
    • PICC line management
    • Heparin and insulin administration
    • Monitoring chemotherapy
    • Wound care and management
  • Certifications:
    • Chemotherapy administration certification (required prior to start)
    • BLS certification

Preferred Skills and Certifications

  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute)
  • Charge nurse experience
  • OCN (Oncology Certified Nurse)

Patient Diagnoses

  • General medical-surgical diagnoses, including:
    • AKI (Acute Kidney Injury)
    • Sepsis
    • Cancer
    • Septic shock
    • Pain management
    • Diabetic foot ulcers

Unit Details

  • Daily Census: 42 patients
  • Special Procedures: May include administration of chemotherapy/biotherapy (IV, PO, or injection).
  • Attendance: Monthly staff meetings required.

Orientation and Training

  • Unit Orientation: 24 hours (2 shifts)
  • Scrubs: Navy blue and white

Additional Information

  • RTO (Request Time Off): Maximum of 7 days; must be arranged prior to booking.
  • Storm/Hurricane Team: Contract staff may be required to report to work during catastrophic events or disasters.
  • Documentation Requirements: Various forms and certifications required prior to start, including but not limited to:
    • Photo ID
    • Emergency contact form
    • HIPAA Safety Manual Acknowledgement
    • Background check
    • Drug testing
