  • Daylight: 1:5 (max 6)
  • Night: 1:6 (max 7)

Required Certifications

• BLS (Basic Life Support)

Common Diagnoses/Types of Patients

• Orthopedic: Post-op knee replacement, hip replacement, hip fractures, shoulder replacement
• Genitourinary: TURBT, TURP, bladder biopsy
• General Surgery: Hemicolectomy, cholecystectomy, appendectomy, hernia repair
• Cath Lab: Post peripheral interventions, dialysis catheter insertions

Experience or Must-Have Skills

• RN License
• Ability to transfuse blood
• Wound vac changes
• PCA pump management

Additional Responsibilities

• Drip Management: Titrate heparin drips per protocol
• Charge Nurse: Present on each shift; daylight charge does not take an assignment, night charge may take a small assignment (2-3 patients)
• Patient Care Technicians:

  • Staffing: 3 PCTs on days, 2 PCTs on nights
  • Duties include bathing patients, changing linens, assisting with feeds, ambulating patients, taking vital signs, and documenting in EMR.

Equipment and Technology

• Respiratory Therapy Equipment: RNs troubleshoot but do not manage vents; RT administers treatments.
• Monitoring: No monitor techs; strips interpreted by tech on Level 5 and faxed to Level 7 for review.

Scheduling and Shifts

• Shifts:

  • RNs: 7 AM - 7 PM
  • CNAs: 6 AM - 6 PM
• Scheduling: No self-scheduling; set schedules based on staff preferences and needs.
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Holiday Requirement: May be asked to participate in holiday rotation.

Additional Notes

• Call/Standby: No on-call; standby for low census.
• Floating Requirements: Rotating basis; may float to other MedSurg or IMC units as needed.
• Dress Code:

  • Nursing: Navy Blue or White Scrubs
  • PCT: Ceil Blue Scrubs
  • Ward Clerks: Hot Pink and Black Scrubs
• Orientation: 1 day with Educator, 1-2 days with preceptor.
