Required Skills and Experience

  • Minimum Years of Experience: 2 years
  • Traveler Experience: 1st time travelers accepted with a minimum of 2 years experience.
  • Skills Required:
    • Telemetry
    • Interpretation of dysrhythmias
    • Management of dysrhythmias
  • Self-Rating Requirements:
    • Arterial Line Management: 2-3
    • Titratable Cardiac & Vasoactive Drips: at least 3
  • Certifications Required:
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support)

Patient Care Details

  • Patient Ratios: Vary from 1:3-6 depending on patient acuity; maximum of 4 ICCU patients.
  • Patient Population:
    • Post-operative cardiothoracic surgery & structural heart patients
    • Includes open heart surgery, thoracotomy patients, TAVR, VATS surgeries, and esophagogastrostomy patients.
  • Special Procedures:
    • Maintenance of a-lines, titratable gtts, BIPAP, trachs, heated high flow, epidurals & PCAs, temporary epicardial pacemakers, blake drains, chest tubes, etc.

Unit Details

  • Float Requirement: Yes, required to float within scope as needed.
  • Weekend Requirement: Must work 4-5 weekend shifts every 6 weeks.
  • Unit Systems: PYXSIS, Dimensions/Epic, SBAR
  • Unit Orientation: 24 hours
  • Scrubs: Navy or White

Additional Information

  • Internal Notes: Must pass EKG Testing prior to start for this specialty.
  • Scheduling Type: Self-Scheduling
  • Special Equipment: Bedside monitors in all rooms

    • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam
    • Color Blind Testing
    • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam
  • Health Documents Required:
    • Physical Exam
    • Fit Mask
    • Negative TB or Chest X-Ray
    • Drug Testing
    • Flu Seasonal Vaccination/Documentation
    • COVID-19 Vaccination (if applicable)

Background and Reference Checks

  • Background Check: Required within 90 days of start.
  • References: 2 professional references within three years of start.
