Job Title: Registered Nurse - Emergency Room (ER) Location: University of Maryland Capital Region Medical Center - 901 Harry S Truman Dr N, Largo, MD 20774 Job Type: Contract – 13-week duration Shift: Night Shift (3x12-Hour) 7:30 PM - 8:00 AM Job Overview: The University of Maryland Capital Region Medical Center is seeking an experienced Emergency Room (ER) Registered Nurse for a night shift position (3x12-hour shifts per week). The position will require a nurse with at least 4-5 years of experience in a similar emergency department setting, along with Epic experience. This is a 13-week contract with the possibility of extension. As part of the ER Team, the nurse will work in a fast-paced environment, providing care to patients with a wide range of medical issues such as Chest Pain, Stroke, Sepsis, Cardiac Arrest, Trauma, and Respiratory Illness. The successful candidate must be willing to float within the unit and specialty as needed. Key Responsibilities: • Provide emergency nursing care in a high-acuity environment for a variety of patients. • Perform patient assessments and provide immediate treatment for critical and non-critical cases. • Administer medications, monitor vital signs, and manage pain control as necessary. • Collaborate with physicians, technicians, and other healthcare providers to deliver coordinated care. • Handle emergency cases including cardiac arrest, stroke, trauma, sepsis, and other critical medical situations. • Monitor and manage patients in the VIP area of the ER for specialized care. • Use the EPIC system for documentation and tracking patient progress. • Ensure compliance with hospital safety protocols and infection control practices. • Maintain patient records accurately and confidentially, following all HIPAA regulations. • Participate in department meetings and ongoing professional development. Requirements: • Experience: Minimum of 4-5 years of Emergency Room nursing experience. 3 years of travel nurse experience is preferred. • Licensure: Active Maryland RN license (or compact license). • Certifications: o BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA only. o ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) – AHA only. o PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – AHA only. o CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) – Most units will require this certification (the Calm Every Storm online version is currently the only acceptable online vendor). o NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale). o TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) certification. • Epic Experience: Required. Other Requirements: • Must be willing to float within the unit and specialty as needed. • Must be able to work weekends (every other weekend required). • Must be available to work holidays as scheduled. • On-call: Not required. • COVID-19 Vaccine: Not required. • Flu Vaccine: Required, no exemptions. Facility Information: • Emergency Department: • The ER has 46 beds with a patient-to-nurse ratio of 1:4. • Visits per day: Approximately 140 patients. • Specialty Area: VIP area with 11 beds for higher-acuity cases like Chest Pain, Stroke, Cardiac Arrest, Sepsis, and Trauma.
