Job Title: Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) Location: Rikers Island, East Elmhurst, NY 11370 Shift: 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM Key Responsibilities: • Assess the needs of arrestees and gather relevant healthcare information for screening. • Collaborate with police, corrections staff, hospital clinical teams, and community providers. • Identify clients suitable for behavioral health interventions and serve as a liaison between public defence agencies and providers. • Collect and document behavioral health history using jail-based EHR systems. • Support stakeholders in central booking facilities, ensuring efficient case management and care. Required Skills & Qualifications: • 5 years of experience in providing direct counseling or crisis intervention services to justice-involved individuals. • Strong organizational skills for data collection and program performance reporting. • Knowledge of criminal justice and public health systems, particularly in NYC. • Established relationships with Legal Aid, New York County Defenders, and alternative detention programs. • Fluency in Spanish (preferred). Education & Certifications: • Master’s degree in social work (MSW), Forensic Psychology, or related field (preferred). • Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) license issued by NYSED.
