Hospital: Staten Island University Hospital
Title: Nurse Manager for CTOR
Reason for vacancy? Niche position. Tough to fill.
Preferred start date? ASAP
Shift? 7 am to 3 pm.
Weekends & Holidays? The unit is closed but has on-call. Not required to come in but reachable
Unit or Case volume/year? Not busy. 525 cases per year
Total number of employees under the leader? Just over nursing. 8 employees Day into Evening
and then on-call .
How senior is the staff? (people over 10 years with some new hires that are less than a year.
Some retirement is coming up.
Who will this person report to? Reports to Senior Director of Peri-Op
Is this a union facility? Yes
What are your top goals for this leader? (2-3)
● To continue staff engagement . There is a big gap in experience level with a goal towards
cohesiveness. ensure people are working at the top of skill level. Engage with surgeons
and strong team engagement . Get the staff to participate in performance improvement.
What are the top challenges for this leader? (2-3)
● A lot of turnover in management with tenure staff concerns. Weighing through
personalities and getting people out of cyclos. Strong in team budding
Do you have a preference for the size of the hospital that the candidate is coming from (# beds
managed, etc.)? CTOR experience is major and knowledge. CTOR minimum 4 years practicing
and management at least 2 years experience. If charge nurse or assistant managers interested
in mid level experience.
What qualifications? at least BSN, CNOR certification,
Certifications? BSN a must
Masters prepared? preferred not a requirement
Magnet? Not required or preferred
Academic? Experience working in a center great but not required
Number of years’ experience? 3-5 years
