JOB: Nursery (IICN - Intermediate Intensive Care Nursery)

Unit NICU/Nursery Miscellaneous Info & Examples if Needed
Level of NICU Level II
# of beds 8 beds, average census 2-3 patients
Ratios 1:2:3, always at least 2 nurses
Required Certifications BLS, NRP; RNC-NIC preferred and STABLE preferred
Common diagnoses/Types of patients 31 weeks & higher, hyperbilirubinemia, phototherapy, hypoglycemia, IV antibiotics, feeders
Experience or 'Must have' skills Must have at least 2 years of NICU experience, must have at least level 3 experience. Must be comfortable with stabalization. NO 1st time travelers. Charge experience preferred. Must have level III experience or above. Must have couplet care experience. Must be skilled in breastfeeding techniques & education. Must be confident working in smaller environment with less resources. pediatric/PICU experience would be helpful to be able to float

Charge Nurse/House Supervisor Yes - small patient assignment if needed
Are there nurse aids on this unit/Ratios No aides
Neonatologist in house 24/7 Available 24/7 but not in house
RT Equipment (vents, Cpap, BiPap, etc) Seldom get vented patients - if they do they get shipped out 24Hrs or less, must be comfortable with high flow nasal canula and CPAP
Is there tele on this unit Monitor Techs RNs read strips Phillips tele monitors & phillips fetal monitors. Nurses monitor all tele.
Shifts & Scheduling 12 hour shifts
Weekend Requirement Every other
Holiday Requirement Worked into permanent staff rotation
Is there a call or standby requirement Yes, must be available within 30mins of call, would be placed on call for low census.
Floating Requirements Yes, will be expected to float and help with other tasks, will float to couplet care
Scrub Color/Dress Code Provided
Unit/Departments specific orientation Depends on experience, typically 2-3 shifts
Additional Notes Must be able to hit the ground running. Must be able to manage patients on own with small amount of staff & resources. Need experienced nurses as a lot of staffing is newer within last few years.
Cancellation Policy:May cancel equivalence to 1 weekly guaranteed hours for that assignment. 32, 36, or 40. 26 week contracts have double the cancellation policy.
