Shift: 8 Hrs 5x8 Hr Description: Performing as a contract registered nurse in the New York City public and charter schools following a model of primary nursing care and OSH policies and procedures. Using the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the health needs of students in NYC public, Charter, D79, and D75 settings. Providing direct care and case management to students with asthma, diabetes, allergies, seizures and other chronic conditions. Teaching staff selected by schools to administer emergency injectable Glucagon for diabetes, and emergency epinephrine for anaphylaxis. Providing direct nursing service, walk-in, and emergency care to NYC public, charter, D79, and D75 students Issuing referrals for primary, urgent, or specialty healthcare providers as needed to address healthcare needs, i.e. 12s, C12s, etc. Following the OSH communicable disease control procedures to relay information to school administrations regarding school exclusion and readmission to prevent further outbreak. Following a medically prescribed regimen for medication and treatment administration using OSH policies and procedures. Consulting with students healthcare providers as needed to support medical regimens as prescribed. Reviewing medical and health records of students. Documenting nursing services in the OSH Automated Student Record (ASHR) or OSH manual documentation system in the event ASHR is not available. Assisting OSH providers while they conduct New Admissions (NAE) and other exams in schools. Reporting suspected physical abuse, sexual abuse, and neglect of children as mandated by law. Participating in multidisciplinary and parent conferences to discuss students plans of care in school, Teaching students, families and school communities and identifying cases for follow up to promote wellness for students. Conducting Principal/Teacher- Nurse conferences while maintaining confidentiality as per HIPAA, Providing on-going health education programs to students, parents and school staff. Preparing reports if requested by OSH. Maintaining inventory of supplies and equipment and reporting malfunctions or missing items. May be subject to COVID testing upon training/onboarding May be required to perform COVID testing Skills: Maintains current Infection Control training as per NYS mandates2 years recent clinical experience as a Registered Nurse Maintains training requirements for NYS and OSH bloodborne pathogens standards (OSHA 1030and Right-to-Know Preferred skills/attributes: Effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
