Job Title: Special Education (SPED) Teacher Location: Belmont, MA Job Type: Full-Time Position Overview: The Belmont School District is seeking a passionate and experienced Special Education (SPED) Teacher to join our educational team. This position will involve working with students who have a variety of learning, emotional, and developmental needs. The SPED Teacher will develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs), collaborate with general education teachers, and foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment to ensure each student reaches their fullest potential. Key Responsibilities: Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) that address the specific needs of students with disabilities. Provide direct instruction to students with various disabilities, including learning disabilities, behavioral disorders, and developmental delays. Modify curriculum and teaching strategies to ensure access to the general education curriculum for all students. Collaborate with classroom teachers, paraprofessionals, specialists, and other staff members to support student learning and growth. Monitor student progress regularly and adjust instructional approaches as needed to achieve IEP goals. Participate in IEP meetings, providing input on student progress and necessary interventions. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student performance, behavior, and progress toward IEP goals. Communicate regularly with parents and caregivers about student progress and strategies for supporting learning at home. Foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment where all students feel valued and respected. Qualifications: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Special Education or a related field. Valid Massachusetts teaching license with Special Education certification. Experience working with students with special needs, preferably in a school setting. Knowledge of IEP development, instructional best practices, and behavior management strategies. Strong communication and organizational skills. Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and effectively engage with students, parents, and staff. Commitment to fostering an inclusive, supportive, and safe learning environment.
